END OF TENANCY CLEANING CHECKLIST
The move-out checklist, room by room.
What inventory clerks usually look at when a tenancy ends, and what to clean before you hand back the keys. Use it to do the clean yourself, or to check exactly what your cleaner will cover.
01 · KITCHEN
The room that
gets checked first.
Grease and limescale are the most common reasons a kitchen fails a check-out.
- ✧ Oven, hob, grill pan and extractor filter degreased
- ✧ Inside and outside of cupboards and drawers wiped
- ✧ Fridge and freezer emptied, defrosted and cleaned
- ✧ Sink, taps and drainer descaled; worktops and splashback cleaned
- ✧ Washing machine drawer and door seal, dishwasher filter
02 · BATHROOMS
Limescale, grout and glass.
Descale the shower screen, taps, shower head and tiles. Clean the toilet inside and out including the base and behind the pan, the bath or shower tray, the basin and any extractor fan cover. Polish mirrors and wipe cabinets inside and out.
03 · BEDROOMS & LIVING AREAS
Surfaces, skirting and floors.
Dust and wipe skirting boards, door frames, doors, light switches and sockets. Clean inside wardrobes and drawers, window sills and the inside of windows. Vacuum and mop all hard floors, and vacuum carpets including the edges and under furniture that stays.
04 · THE EXTRAS THAT GET MISSED
Where deductions hide.
Radiators and the wall behind them, light fittings and lampshades, curtain rails and blinds, inside the meter cupboard, marks on walls around switches, and the front door. Carpet cleaning is often listed separately in the tenancy agreement, so check whether professional cleaning is required.

Check-out tips.
What should I check before the clean?+
Find your check-in inventory and compare each room with it. Note anything that was already marked or worn when you moved in, and look at your tenancy agreement for any cleaning clauses, such as professional carpet cleaning.
When should the clean happen?+
After your belongings are out and as close to the check-out as possible, so the property is empty, the floors are clear and nothing gets dirty again before the inspection.
Should I take photos?+
Yes. Date-stamped photos of every room after the clean, including inside the oven, fridge and cupboards, give you a record if anything is disputed later.
